Putting Faith to Work

This month, as we ease back into the routines of school and work from the vacation and leisure of July, we have several opportunities for our members to put our hands and hearts to work. Each of these has a space for you, for folks of all abilities.

2015 Annual Work Day

For over 25 years, we have joined with the members of our partner congregation to spruce up our facility and to share work and fellowship with one another. This year, we are extending an invitation to our Terra Nova Christian PreSchool families to be a part of this endeavor.

On Saturday, August 1st, from 9 am to after lunch, we will do a variety of indoor and outdoor tasks from the inevitable cobweb sweeping in the sanctuary and Social Hall to cleaning the kitchen (stove, anyone?) to tree trimming, roofing a garden shed, cleaning the roof and gutters and such. We have let the lawn “go” for the drought but still have a variety of gardening needs as well.

You may sign up on the board in the Social Hall for a particular task or just show up with gloves, hat and sunscreen. We provide cleaning supplies, snacks and lunch.

Back to School Packing

For the second year, we will be assisting the Pacifica Resource Center in their Back to School Project by packing the backpacks with the supplies requested by the Pacifica schools. St. Andrew committed to supplying the backpacks themselves (thank you Lisa for getting them and thank you all who purchased one). On Saturday, August 8th, from 10 am until we are done (probably around noon), we will team up with other volunteers to get this done. If just love to be around school supplies (the smell of erasers!) or want to help out the neediest families in our community, sign up to join us.

Rebuilding Together

Last August, we painted a house! This summer, we hoped to do that again, but our project has been delayed. So, we will partner with Rebuilding Together on Saturday, August 22nd , from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in La Honda at 900   Sears   Ranch  Rd in the La Honda Creek Open Space Preserve. The target activities include siding demolition, window/door framing, electrical and plumbing evaluation and roofing evaluation. Eight to ten volunteers are needed and you can sign up by contacting Penny at pennynewall@aol.com or Lisa Angelot at lange16093@aol.com or calling the church office at 359-2462.

2015 Harvest Festival

Last year, we had a wonderful time enjoying one another’s home crafted products and goodies and supporting our children and teens to attend Westminster Woods. Over $2,000 was raised for camperships which we gave out last month. We hope to do the same this year on Saturday, October 17th, but need your help! We would love to have donations of anything you would like to share: needlework, woodwork, baked goods, craft items. We are looking for helpers, so if you don’t feel crafty…. For the day of the event we are looking to borrow easy-up shade structures. If you have one, please contact us. For more information or to let us know what you are donating, please call Peggy at the church office 359-2462 or Judi at 355-1072 or email the church office at standrewpacifica@ sbcglobal.net.

Old First Community Dinner

Last October, led by Mike Fredenburg, members of St. Andrew cooked and served dinner to over 200 guests of Old First Presbyterian Church in San Francisco. Most of the guests were participants in Old First’s Hospitality program which extends care to the neediest of its neighbors in the Sacramento and Van Ness neighborhood, folks who are poor and/or homeless. This year, we will do the same on the last Saturday of February. So, mark your calendar now and look for more information with possibilities of cooking and/or serving.
