Pastoral and Deacon Care
When members are sick or in need of emergency counseling, our pastor visits them and/or their families at home or in the hospital. The Board of Deacons provides crisis support and ongoing contact with members of their “parishes,” to keep them informed of all concerns and activities among our church family.
Jesus Christ has called us to reach out to those beyond St. Andrew’s doors in ministries of compassion and advocacy. The Mission Committee educates and informs members about areas of concern such as hunger, homelessness, refugee resettlement, disaster response, and poverty. This vital information is provided through the Minute for Mission during worship each week, the newsletter, adult education events, mission fairs and trips and other talks and workshops. The Mission Committee also encourages the involvement of members in work beyond St. Andrew by publicizing requests for volunteers from our denomination and community. Three special offerings are received annually that promote the work of Christ in the world: One Great Hour of Sharing during Lent; Peacemaking during World Communion Sunday in October; and the Christmas Joy during Advent.
St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Women is a group of women who meet once at month for Bible study and introspection. They also hold various events to raise money for worthy causes such as women in safe houses and the homeless. Through their prayer and devotion, the lives of those less fortunate are made a bit better.
Teaming up with other Presbyterians from around the country, several of our church members have gone to New Orleans, LA to help rebuild houses for those in need. For more pictures from our 2009 trip, check out the flickr page.
Our members constantly strive to better the world and help those who are in need.
